Saturday Morning Western Pulp: Complete Western Book Magazine, March 1948

Two of my favorite things on this Western pulp cover: a stagecoach chase and a pretty girl. And it certainly doesn't hurt that behind that cover are three novellas by top-notch authors: D.B. Newton, Gunnison Steele (Bennie Gardner), and Archie Joscelyn. Good stuff all around.

Great cover. Looks like it was painted by Norman Saunders. I wonder how many women could handle a stagecoach? It was not an easy task.

Yep, that's a Saunders cover. I didn't look it up before I posted, but I checked on the Saunders website just now and it is. I seem to remember reading about one famous female stagecoach driver. I'm sure there weren't many others, although it's a bit that crops up fairly often in Western fiction. I used it myself in a book earlier this year.

Didn't Calamity Jane drive a stage?
