Sunday Morning Bonus Pulp: Adventure, January 1, 1928

Another minimalist but very effective cover from the iconic pulp ADVENTURE. This painting is by Remington Schuyler, an artist I'm not familiar with. I like it quite a bit, though. I also like the lineup of authors, which in addition to J.D. Newsom (a specialist in Foreign Legion yarns) includes F.R. Buckley, George Allan England, Murray Leinster, Leonard H. Nason, Stephen Payne, Hugh Pendexter, and A. deHerries Smith. Whew!

Definitely nice and evocative. Good color scheme.

I like the cover painting a lot too. The author list impresses.

Since 1972, I've been a big fan of ADVENTURE MAGAZINE and I have several of the cover paintings. I've just noticed that ADVENTURE lasted 43 years as a pulp, 1910-1953. I've been reading it for 42 years, 1972-2014.

It's my favorite fiction magazine.

I've always been a fan of FFL scenes. I wonder if the story is any good.

I like Foreign Legion stories also when well done. I looked in my copy of the issue and I see that I read the story back in the 1970's and liked it. It was 26 pages long and starred Lt. Grellon, who appeared more than once in stories.

J.D. Newsom, along with Georges Surdez, were two of the best pulp writers who covered the Legion.
